The concept

Cybee was born out of Nuabee’s need for a high-performance solution for backup to Cloud object storage and restore to the Cloud or locally.

For the past 10 years, Nuabee has been using a third-party backup solution, which is natively Cloud-based, but which poses problems for us in terms of backup performance (on servers of several TB or even ten TB), as well as the speed of restoring these servers.

For the past 10 years, Nuabee has been using a third-party backup solution, which, although natively Cloud-based, poses a number of problems for us

  • a low deduplication rate, leading to large object storage volumes and long retention times
  • difficulty in backing up file servers of several tens of TB and then restoring them within short timescales
  • restoration speeds that are not compatible with multi-TB servers in a disaster recovery context
  • failure to analyze S3 storage space and identify space optimization factors

In short, as Nuabee is in the field of Cyber-resilience and not just backup, the need is to have a high-performance solution for restarting complete servers and not just restoring a few files or directories.

The features expected from the Cybee solution :

  • a solution that handles the backup of Windows and Linux servers in the same way, with the same backup agent that
    • offers the same functionality for restoring a file or a volume, whether for Windows or Linux
  • a solution that offers a storage manager service , which is the service in charge of storage (S3, etc.) and management of the various storage points
  • a solution with a high deduplication ratio

Our choice of engine was Restic, which is a fast, secure and efficient backup engine, particularly for managing large quantities of data.

Data restoration:

  • High restoration speed : ideally more than 2 TB of data restored to the cloud per hour
  • Choice of snapshot
  • Cloud or local restore destination
